Scottish River Rock Dining Table

In 2020 William went on a camping trip to the Scottish Highlands, and collected rocks from Glencoe, Ben Nevis, Loch Ness, Loch Fyne, among other places and decided to create a river rock dining table after seeing similar examples online.

The finished table weighs almost 70kg and was created using live edge wood, GlassCast 50 Resin, blue pigment and a selection of the found river rocks.

William created a mould form, which he placed the prepared live-edge slabs into. Next William sealed the wood and poured the pigmented base layer for the river, followed by positioning the river rocks in the river bed and securing them in the resin and filling the river channel with clear resin.

Once the resin was fully cured, the slab was demoulded and finished by chamfering the edges and corners and polishing before mounting onto the industrial box frame legs.

Thank you for sharing this project William, it's a beautiful table and must be the talk of the dining room it sits in!

ABOUT WILLIAM O'TOOLE

William lives in Hertfordshire in the UK and when he isn't making tables with resin he works in Production Finance in the Film & TV industry.

A few years ago William saw a video on YouTube of a coffee table made with pennies and he wanted to make his own. So he started with that and then decided to make a dining table with some rocks he collected on a trip to the Scottish Highlands.

He decided he needed more practise to achieve the results he wanted and set about getting lots of practical experience by creating 15 more tables - mainly for family and friends - and they look amazing!
