'River Lee' Coffee Table
Martin disassembled an old chest of drawers when clearing out his garage but felt that the timber was too good to throw out. He removed the thick blue paint to find blond American beech beneath.
The surface of the chest had split and warped and could not be re-aligned and Martin came up with the idea to carve out the course of the River Lee in Cork, then fill with epoxy resin to create a new table top.
To do this he used a scroll saw and coping saw to define the north and south banks on the split pieces and then made a mould to create the new table top and poured the river using GlassCast 50 tinted with blue pigment.
After sanding and finishing Martin applied Osmo oil to the finished surface and finally mounted the slab on to metal hairpin legs.
Thanks for sharing Martin - it looks great!
