Spalted Beech and Epoxy Resin Eyeball

Eye Spy anyone?

This incredible Eyeball was created by woodturner Mike using Spalted Beech and resin.

To create the eyeball Mike used a piece of spalted beech which he created a recess in and poured in resin pigmented with a pearly white, then made a smaller recess and poured a layer of metallic blue and finally created a smaller recess and filled it with black resin to create the pupil.

Once cured, Mike turned the blank to create a sphere and as you can see in the photographs this created the white eyeball, the blue iris and the black pupil.

The final stage was to create a stand to mount the eyeball upon and Mike used a 2nd piece of Spalted Beech which he turned on the lathe before polishing up both pieces. It looks amazing and gives it an almost 'alien' look!

If you're interested in learning how Mike creates pieces like this, you can follow the link below to his YouTube channel below for lots more information and projects.

Thanks for sharing this project with us Mike - it's brilliant!
