Can’t find the answer you’re looking for?Ask our technical team a question.

The GlassCast resins are sensitive to low temperatures and if the resin gets very cold (either in storage or transport where vehicles and depots are rarely heated) or it sits still for prolonged periods, it can crystallise. This can produce a variety of effects ranging from cloudiness, flakes suspended in the resin and in the worst cases the whole lot can solidify. Fortunately this does not damage the resin at all and can be reversed by warming the resin in its container with the lid securely in place.

You'll need to hold it at 40-50°C for a few hours as it does take quite a bit of energy to reverse the crystallisation. The longer it has been crystallised, the longer it will take to reverse. You could achieve this by sitting it directly onto a radiator or putting it into an oven on a low setting. For best results we recommend standing the container in hot water (although you will have to change the water a few times to maintain the temperature) but this will return the resin to its clear, liquid form ready to be used for your project. We have yet to see resin that will not eventually return to being clear. Even when the resin has become a solid lump, with enough heat and time it will return to a liquid.

We do also have a video which shows the process of reversing the crystallisation. This is the link to this below if you would like to take a look:

How to Reverse Crystallisation in Epoxy Resin

Hi Sara, yes, there's enough of all the materials in the kit (sand and shells) to make two beach scenes if you prefer, or two oceanscapes for that matter :)

Although GlassCast cures to a very hard finish, it is still a resin surface at the end of the day and so regular chopping on it would quickly put scratches into the resin. Normally when you see chopping boards with resin art on them, the resin area is generally separate from the wood area where the chopping is done, in order to avoid excessive scratching of the resin. Therefore, if you're thinking of making the picture as the the fully resin-coated piece then it wouldn't really be recommended to use it as a chopping board.

It's also worth pointing out that although GlassCast 3 just becomes a completely inert plastic once cured, and a chopping board is only occasional/incidental contact anyway, the resin hasn't been specifically tested or approved for food contact and so we don't market it or suggest it for this application.

The two birch-ply boards that are included in the kit are both rectangular, but - if you would like to make round artwork - you could either use a saw to cut one of the rectangular boards into a round board, or you could use a round board that you already have.

Absolutely love this kit!! Ordered it on Friday, delivered yesterday. Watched the video through and then set myself up with the book and my ipad and worked my way through the 'beach scene' project. I was honestly so suprised with the results, with these type of kits things never look as good as they do in the pictures but I 'm so happy with how mine turned out, absolutlely LOVE IT!! The only thing I would say is that the kit includes 2 sets of gloves and if you follow the advice in the tutorial and use your fingers to spread the resin then you get resin all over them and need to change them so I've already used both sets and I haven't done the second artwork yet but apart from that, it's one of the best craft projects I've ever bought. :)

Such a fun project! I decided to make two beach scenes. I do really like the more simple oceanscape but my daughters both love the beach scene. We used some of our own shells we've collected from beaches over the years which I think makes this artwork a bit more special. A really great kit and I'll definitely be making more art like this soon - 5 out of 5.

great kit, really good packaging, video tutorial is really well made and the tutor Christine is really lovely and seems to really enjoy what shes doing. only reason its not 5 stars is because i would have liked a round board (like on Christine's instagram). i know i could cut the board but i don't have a saw!!
